In light of the recent weather

In light of the recent weather...
I just wanted to take a moment to put out a few simple reminders on how to keep yourself, your family & your neighbors safe in these & other severe weather situations. Most importantly, when the storm clouds are forming & there are tornado "watches" (there MIGHT be a storm) and "warnings" (there WILL PROBABLY be a storm); this is NOT the time to go outside. I
know that these things don't happen in our area often & they can be cool to watch, but these storms are hard to predict. Storms can strike hard & strike fast, with little to no warning. It is important that you do not become a part of a potential problem by being somewhere that you should not be. Also remember to always have a disaster supply kit & evacuation plan in place in the event that the authorities let you know that evacuation is necessary.

There are many ways to learn more about preparing your family for emergency situations. The Mt. Ephraim Office of Emergency Management has information on preparing yourself & your families for disaster. We are usually available at the EOC (former Lambert Ave firehouse) on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30pm or call Jay Vilardo at (609)929-9604 or you can contact our department via this page. There is also information available at http://www.FEMA.gov/ or http://www.Redcross.org/

As always, there is also the CERT(Community Emergency Response Team) program for adults 18 and up. Teen CERT is our newest program, started for young adults ages 13 and over. Either program is a 20 hour class where you can be trained in disaster preparedness, basic first aid, search and rescue, and fire suppression. If you have special skills, are motivated to help your community or just want to learn more ways to help your family in a disaster situation, this is a great program for you.
